Love At First Sight

By: Bob Frantz

It all started out with the introduction of the new Retro-Styled 2002 Thunderbird. My wife Elaine, fell in love with the new Thunderbird ever since we attended the bug celebration of the “Launching of the new Thunderbird” held in Dearborn at the Ford World Headquarters. Every Thunderbird made, from 1955 to 1997 was on display. Mr. Bill Ford (at that time he was only Vice-President of Ford Motor Co.) was mingling in the crowd, just like the rest of us, talking to the owner’s of the Thunderbird’s on display. That is when my wife said that she liked Mr. Ford so well that from now on she was buying only Ford products.

Well, this is not the love at first sight yet. You see, Bill Ford is married and I wouldn’t want to miss my wife’s good cookin!! The story goes on. I have a ’57 Thunderbird. It was always thought that it world be neat if Elaine would buy a new style Thunderbird (red with a white top) to match my ’57. Then in early March of ’05 my wife heard from a co-worker checking the Internet that the Thunderbird was again going to be discontinued. Now, that was bad news for Elaine and her wheels were spinning out of control. “What am I going to do now”, she said, over and over again. This was devastating news.

Then one Sunday afternoon in mid-March, Ken and Lucille Harvey brought their new “Limited Edition” Cashmere ’05 Thunderbird to our house. Now, this is the part – “Love at First Sight”. When they heard we were interested in a new T-Bird they were so excited they wanted to go shopping with us the following weekend, and the rest is history. This picture show my ’57 Bird with Ken and Lucille’s Cashmere on one side and Elaine’s (no, it’s not mine, I only get to clean it) Cashmere on the other side.

WE LOVE OUR BIRDS!!!!!
