Letter from Malcolm Green, ITC Convention Coordinator - July 1, 2006

I would like to bring members up to date concerning the status of our Annual Convention in Salisbury, N.C. on August 14th to 20th.

About seventy rooms have been booked so far at the Holiday Inn. I am trying to get the Hotel to extend the block of rooms until July 15th, but have not heard back from them on this yet. If anyone is still planning to join the fun, it is imperative for you to do it immediately.

At this time, please get your registrations in immediately to Earl Dickenson, Registrar. We need a head count for all events to help us make decisions on food, possible transportation, amount of guides needed, etc.

In the following paragraphs, I will try to show you why the above is much more than just helpful.

The wine tours on Monday will start at 10:00AM at the Raylen Winery. We will leave the Hotel at 9:00 at the latest. More people going, the longer the caravan will take. Any wine tasting cost is $5.00.

The Salisbury Trolley Tour picks you up at the Hotel at 2:00 PM. They have only 2 Trolley’s that hold a total of 50 people. We are over-booked already and we are going to have a second tour on Tuesday. The first 50 registered will go on Monday.

The caravan will leave the Hotel at 5:00PM for the Ingraham’s ‘Welcome Party’ in Trinity.

On Tuesday, Reed’s Gold Mine tour time is 9:00AM. We may have to leave earlier than 8:00, because of the indicated length of the caravan.

NASCAR tour to the ‘Petty Enterprise’ is a tour of the race shop and ‘Victory Junction Camp’ included.

Wednesday is golf morning at Corbin Hills. The course is only several miles from the Hotel. There is plenty of room for this event. OR you can go on the second NASCAR tour will be around the Concord, NC area that will include ‘Roush Racing’.

Dennis Carpenter’s is going to be a very popular event. It is only about 15 miles on Rte. 29.

The Dinner Cruise on the ‘Lady of the Lake’ has an absolute maximum of 150 people. We have arranged for 2 Motor Coaches (110 people) to take you to the cruise boat. This will cost you $5.00 per person. (The Club’s cost is almost $11.00). I made this decision because of the time of return. Sign up when you get to the Hospitality Room and receive your packet and badge. First come, first serve.

On Thursday, caravans to NC Transportation Museum in Spencer (approx. 6 miles) and Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville (approx. 25 miles) will have leaders.

Friday morning is for shopping or Thunderbird shining. We recommend Concord Mills (approx 18 miles) for the shopping. Go-cart car racing is also at the mall.

Salisbury opens their hearts and their town to us on Friday night. A private parking lot is being provided for only us on Main Street, with security, while we BBQ at the Trolley Garage. After the BBQ, stay with your T-Birds or tour the town with all the shops. Salisbury is hoping to get radio, TV and newspaper coverage for the event. They may also have a ‘Peoples Choice’ award.

Saturday has our judging, Cocktail Hour, and Awards Banquet.

Sounds like you-all WILL have a blast!!!!!!!!

Malcolm

From the Holiday Inn at Salisbury website:
WELCOME to SALISBURY NC. Offering FREE HIGH-SPEED INTERNET ACCESS WIRELESS throughout the hotel!

Situated on 12 acres of woodlands, the Holiday Inn Salisbury Hotel and Conference Center .

We feature 181 beautifully appointed guest rooms with Ergonomic desk seating and offers free green fees at 2 local golf courses that will allow you to come play for free if you rent a golf cart. They include CORBIN HILLS or MCCANLESS Golf Course. Both will require you to get a special golf privilege card from the front desk and call ahead for a Tee Time. The offers are for Monday - Friday only.

The hotel has a defibrillator located at the front desk as well we have a NOTARY available M-F 9am-5pm.
We are a pet-friendly hotel. If you travel with your pets, please remember to be thoughtful of other hotel guests and pick-up after them as well as never leave them alone in the hotel room unattended. We reserve the right to charge a nominal pet deposit. If staying more than one night, hotel reserves the right to charge the pet deposit nightly.

I would like to see as many as possible to call your orders for your rooms
NOW!

In my experience, it gives me more leverage in talking to the Hotel people when they know the rooms are filling near capacity.

Pass this on to your Chapters to get the word out fast.  Help us to make this venture successful.

There is so much to do in the area it will be hard to pick out the tours with only one week.  A link to Visit Salisbury, NC for information on area attractions, dining, tours, shopping, etc. Right now, we have just started to look into the tours, but a Dinner Cruise on Lake Norman, a NASCAR museum, the NC Transportation Museum, shopping and/or antique tours, history tours, etc., are all for the offering.

See you in August!

Sincerely,

Malcolm Green, ITC Convention Coordinator
